Chapter 4
Pimpri, 1961

A fine stretch of land

"Young people today should realise that the best form of learning and exposure is travel – planned travel, with a defined purpose. No matter how skilled, intelligent or educated you may be, it is only extensive travel and interaction with a wide range of people that will give you the experience, and the polish you need to be truly successful."

This is the dread era of the License Raj. P.P. is now settled in his family life. He is also established as a rising businessman. He and his brothers have bought land in Pimpri and set up a factory.

While he handles the sales, strategy and operational aspects of the business, his younger brother Kishan or K.P. heads the critical area of technology. K.P. has completed his schooling, but P.P.’s education had ended the day his father died, when he was only 12 years old.

Yet, between them, they had already managed to establish the brand Finolex and capture the important automobile cable market all over the country.

Read here how, between them, they built up the required body of knowledge and experience required to fuel a growing business just through their observation, their interactions with others, and through the individual genius of their own theoretical insights.
